Lori Zimmerman is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and serves as the Interim Director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Gastroenterology Procedure Unit at Boston Children's Hospital. She is also an Attending Physician in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Her clinical and research expertise focuses on pediatric gastrointestinal disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), functional abdominal pain, and endoscopic procedures. Dr. Zimmerman holds certifications from the American Board of Pediatrics in both General Pediatrics and Gastroenterology.
Dr. Zimmerman completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University (2001), medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2006), residency in Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital (2009), and a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Boston Children's Hospital (2012). She is affiliated with locations in Boston and Waltham, Massachusetts.
Her research interests include optimizing treatment strategies for pediatric IBD, investigating the overlap between gastrointestinal and other conditions (e.g., endometriosis), and understanding postoperative complications in children undergoing IBD-related surgeries. She has also contributed to studies on postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 in children and the mental health implications of chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
Dr. Zimmerman’s publications reflect her commitment to evidence-based clinical practice and translational research, with a focus on improving outcomes for pediatric patients through multidisciplinary approaches.
