Lori Young

Lori Young is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design in the School of Art at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She has been a faculty member since 2001, specializing in typography and research on cultural narratives of ornament. Her teaching focuses on foundational and advanced graphic design principles, including typography theory and practice.

Research & Artistic Focus: Lori’s work explores the intersection of typography and cultural symbolism, with a focus on ornament’s role in visual storytelling. Her research has been published in international journals such as Visual Communications (London), Graphis, and Visible Culture, as well as in Creativity and Graphic Design USA Annuals and 1000 Greetings.

Teaching: She teaches courses including Principles of Graphic Design, Typography, Graphic Design Theory, and Practicum, emphasizing hands-on design processes and critical analysis.
