Lori Vos is a Teaching Professor and Director of the WRIT program at Queen’s University. She has over 20 years of experience in teaching writing, focusing on critical thinking, rhetorical analysis, and genre conventions. Her role includes directing the Student Academic Success Services (formerly the Writing Centre), where she supports students through writing consultations, workshops, and training writing consultants. She teaches online undergraduate courses in effective writing and experiential learning, including the in-person course Writing in the Community.
Her research interests emphasize experiential learning, Indigenous ways of learning and writing, and creative writing (memoir, short fiction, and poetry). She prioritizes individualized feedback to enhance student writing proficiency and empowerment.
Her publications include the memoir Coming Home: A Spiritual Memoir (2022), short fiction in The Dalhousie Review (2016), and the award-winning story Legacy (2014), which won the William Van Dyke Short Story Prize and was Pushcart Prize-nominated.
Her teaching philosophy integrates peer workshops, process-based learning, and genre conventions to develop both writing and critical thinking skills. She has trained numerous writing consultants and collaborates with faculty across disciplines to deliver targeted writing support.
