Lori Peek is a Professor of Sociology and Director of the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado Boulder. She holds affiliations with the Institute of Behavioral Science and serves on the Board of the National Institute of Building Sciences. Her work focuses on disaster sociology, environmental justice, and vulnerable populations in disasters.
Education:

Research Interests: Dr. Peek studies the social dimensions of disasters, including child and youth experiences, marginalized communities' resilience, and equity in disaster management. Her research emphasizes ethical field methods, school safety, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has conducted fieldwork following Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy, earthquakes, and the BP Oil Spill.
Grants & Funding: Current projects are supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Andrew Mellon Foundation, and Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies. She leads initiatives like the NSF-funded CONVERGE facility for disaster research coordination.
