Lori Burrington is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Oakland University's Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice. Her research focuses on contextual effects on adolescent and early adult crime, delinquency, health-risk behaviors, and disparities related to race, ethnicity, class, and gender. She teaches courses such as CRJ 100 Introduction to Criminal Justice, CRJ 200 Criminological Theory, and CRJ 323 Delinquency & Juvenile Justice.
Her work bridges criminology and sociology, examining how neighborhood environments influence youth behavior and health outcomes. Notable publications include studies on adolescent work experiences' impact on family formation and racial differences in sexual/fertility attitudes in urban contexts.
Dr. Burrington collaborates with scholars on projects analyzing drug use geographies and neighborhood disadvantage effects on sexual risk behaviors. She actively engages in community outreach through Oakland University's programs and supports student initiatives in criminal justice and social work.
