Loretta-Giulia BATALI

Univ. Prof. Dr. Eng. Loretta-Giulia BATALI is a Professor at the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (UTCB) in the Department of Geotechnics and Foundations. She has served as Director of the Doctoral Studies Council at UTCB since 2017 and holds dual expertise as a project verifier (since 2004) and technical expert (since 2012) in geotechnical engineering. She graduated from UTCB's Faculty of Hydrotechnics in 1990, earned a Diploma of Advanced Studies in 1993, and obtained her PhD in Technical Sciences from INSA Lyon, France in 1997 with highest distinction.

Her research focuses on:

• Environmental geotechnics including waste landfill design and geosynthetic applications
• Foundation engineering and soil-structure interaction
• Behavior of unsaturated soils and slope stability analysis
• Geotechnical solutions for natural hazard mitigation

She has led 4 competitive research grants (2 international, 2 national) including FP7 SERIES Program projects on soil reinforcement and Eurocode 7 development. She participates in the Research Center for Geotechnical Engineering at UTCB and has developed technical regulations for geotechnical design standards.
