Lorenzo Ruffoni is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Binghamton University. His research focuses on geometry and topology, particularly geometric group theory and geometric structures on manifolds and cell complexes. He previously held postdoctoral positions at Tufts University (with Genevieve Walsh) and Florida State University (with Phil Bowers), and earned his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Bologna (Italy) under Stefano Francaviglia in 2017.
- Research Interests: Geometric Group Theory, Geometric Structures on Manifolds and Cell Complexes, Hyperbolic Geometry, Riemann Surfaces
- Teaching Interests: Differential Geometry, Number Systems/Introduction to Sets and Proofs, General Topology, Algebraic Topology
His recent work includes a publication in Inventiones Mathematicae (2024) on special cubulation of strict hyperbolization, which bridges geometric group theory and polyhedral complex topology. Key trends in his research involve hyperbolic geometry, manifold structures, and discrete differential geometry.
