Lorenzo Malavasi serves as Full Professor of Physical Chemistry and Materials Science at the University of Pavia, leading the Materials Chemistry Group within the Department of Chemistry. He is Editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Solids (Elsevier) and maintains active research collaborations across university departments.
His research focuses on three primary domains:
- Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Perovskites: Development of solar cell materials through structural-property correlation studies, conducted jointly with Organic Chemistry and Physics departments.
- Ion Conductors: Analysis of oxygen/proton conducting oxides using neutron diffraction under operational conditions and Pair Distribution Function techniques to decode local structure-conductivity relationships.
- Novel Catalysts: Design of g-C3N4-based systems for biomass-to-hydrogen conversion and organic synthesis applications, emphasizing charge carrier separation mechanisms.
Prof. Malavasi directs collaborative projects with Prof. Quadrelli (Organic Chemistry), Prof. Patrini (Physics), and Prof. Antonella Profumo/Dr. Andrea Speltini. His Materials Chemistry Group employs advanced synthesis and characterization methods including sol-gel processing, neutron scattering, and in-situ diffraction to advance energy materials science.
