Lorenzo Guiducci

Lorenzo Guiducci is a Researcher at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin’s Cluster of Excellence 'Matters of Activity'. He holds a PhD in Physics, Science of Biomaterials from the University of Potsdam, where he studied mechanical actuation in plant seed capsules and cellular solids. His interdisciplinary research focuses on bio-inspired materials, mechanical metamaterials, and the relationship between local composition and global material behavior.

Research interests include:

• Structure-function relationships in biological systems and engineered materials
• Self-morphing structures and programmable matter
• Integration of engineering simulations with traditional fabrication techniques like weaving
• Biomimetic approaches to material design and actuation

His publications predominantly explore biomimetic materials, textile mechanics, architectural biomimetics, and theoretical frameworks for active matter. Recent works emphasize interdisciplinary intersections between design, physics, and materials science.
