Lorena Llosa is a Professor of Education and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. Her work focuses on multilingual learners in K-16 contexts, with expertise in standards-based assessments, formative assessment practices, and the integration of language and content instruction. She leads research on science curricula and assessments supporting English learners' academic and linguistic development, funded by NSF and IES grants.
Dr. Llosa has co-led large-scale efficacy studies, including the P-SELL project, and currently supports formative assessment initiatives through the IES-funded Center for the Success of English Learners. Her research addresses assessment validation, academic writing, and translanguaging pedagogy, emphasizing equity in educational outcomes. She serves as affiliated faculty for NYU's IES Predoctoral Training program, mentoring doctoral students in interdisciplinary research.
Her awards include the 2019 AERA Second Language Research SIG Mid-Career Award. She teaches courses on language assessment and content-area language integration, including 'Language Evaluation and Assessment' and 'Teaching Second Language Across Content Areas.'
