Judge Lora Livingston is a retired Senior Judge of the 261st Civil District Court in Travis County, Texas, and an Adjunct Professor at Baylor University School of Law. A 1982 UCLA Law graduate, her career spans poverty law advocacy, private family law practice, and judicial leadership. She served as District Court Judge (1999–2022), overseeing major infrastructure projects like the Travis County Civil and Family Courts Facility, and became the first African American woman on Travis County’s district courts.
Her academic role includes teaching trial advocacy at Baylor Law and serving as Dean of the College for New Judges (Texas). She is a vocal advocate for access to justice, reflected in her leadership of organizations like the Texas Access to Justice Commission, where she served as Interim Director (2023–2024). Her legacy includes establishing the Travis County Self Help Center (now named in her honor) and advocating for indigent defendants and pro bono services.
Judge Livingston’s community impact extends to boards like the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders and the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Her awards highlight both judicial excellence and community service, emphasizing her dual focus on legal innovation and equity.
