Long Truong is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering at La Trobe University and heads the Sustainable Urban and Rural Transport (SURT) Research Group. He holds a PhD from Monash University and a Master of Engineering from the University of South Australia. His research focuses on transport engineering, road safety, simulation, data analytics, and intelligent transport systems. Prior academic roles include Lecturer at La Trobe (2018-2021) and Research Fellow at Monash (2017). Non-academic experience includes Senior Engineer at the Australian Road Research Board and Transport Engineer with Vietnam’s Directorate for Roads.
His editorial roles include Associate Editor of Traffic Injury Prevention and membership on the editorial boards of Travel Behaviour & Society and Journal of Advanced Transportation. Professional committee memberships include the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies and Australasian Transport Research Forum.
Recent research grants include projects on level crossing safety (2023-2025), crash prediction tools (2021-2023), and heavy vehicle turntable use in construction. His work spans 64+ publications, with recent articles addressing tram safety, nighttime railway visibility, and bridge-related crash analysis. His research emphasizes data-driven solutions for safer, sustainable transport systems.
