University of Connecticutمعرفی
Loneke Blackman Carr, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut in the Department of Nutritional Sciences and affiliated with the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Health. She utilizes interdisciplinary methods (qualitative, quantitative, and intervention-based) to reduce obesity disparities in Black women through culturally tailored behavioral interventions.
Education:
- PhD in Nutritional Sciences, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2017)
Her research examines why Black women experience suboptimal outcomes in weight control programs, focusing on social determinants, cultural factors, and digital health strategies. She has developed and tested enhanced behavioral weight loss models specifically adapted for this population.
Recent publications highlight trends in: (1) culturally modified digital interventions for obesity and hypertension; (2) intersectional approaches to women’s health; (3) leveraging social media for community support; and (4) structural barriers to health equity in nutrition research. Her work bridges behavioral science, public health, and technology to address systemic disparities.
