Lokangaka Losambe is the Frederick M. and Fannie C.P. Corse Professor of English at the University of Vermont, housed within the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of English. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ibadan (1983) and has taught African, African Diaspora, and English literatures across universities in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Swaziland, and South Africa.
His research focuses on African-Anglophone literature, Pan-African literature, Black Atlantic literature, and post-colonialism. Notable works include Postcolonial Agency in African and Diasporic Literature and Film: A Study in Globalectics and Borderline Movements in African Fiction. An upcoming publication, The Routledge Handbook of the New African Diasporic Literature (2023), co-edited with Tanure Ojaide, expands on these themes.
Dr. Losambe has received prestigious awards, including the University Scholar Award 2014/2015 and the Lattie Coor Faculty Development Award. He served as President of the African Literature Association (ALA, 2012–2013) and organized the 35th ALA Conference at UVM (2009). His academic leadership includes roles in the MLA Delegate Assembly and the ALA Executive Council.
His teaching spans courses like Harlem Renaissance and Negritude, African Drama and Film, and Post-Coloniality in African-American Literature. Grants include a Vermont Humanities Council award (2009) and earlier scholarships from the Zairian Government and British Council.
