Lois Lorentzen is a Professor at the University of San Francisco (USF), teaching in Theology and Religious Studies, Latin American Studies, and Environmental Studies. With a PhD in Social Ethics from USC, she has taught globally, including in El Salvador, Mexico, and Cambodia. She co-leads the Erasmus year-long living-learning program, emphasizing Ignatian pedagogy—integrating critical reflection, dialogue, and contextualized learning. Her work merges academic rigor with social justice, informed by liberation theology and Paulo Freire’s pedagogy.

Research Interests: Dr. Lorentzen focuses on environmental ethics, migration, and global social justice. She prioritizes experiential learning, such as fieldwork and international immersion, to foster critical thinking and ethical engagement. Her approach emphasizes dialogue over didacticism, co-learning with students, and resisting premature solutions to complex issues.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Erasmus program and collaborates with USF’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) to refine pedagogical practices. Her global partnerships include work in El Salvador and Cambodia.
