Lois Jarman serves as Contributing Faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences at Shenandoah University. With over 25 years of experience in second language instruction, her expertise spans Language instruction, Education policy, and Medieval History. She holds a BA from Goucher College, MA from Hood College, and a Doctor of Professional Studies (DProf) from Shenandoah University.
Her research focuses on Reading and Language acquisition, Women in Leadership, and the Effects of incarceration on women and higher education. Professional highlights include leadership roles such as Director of the Intensive English Language Program at Shepherd University and Director of International Affairs at Shepherd University. She has also served on the Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) Board of Education in Frederick, Maryland.
Personal contributions include membership in Rotary International, the Frederick County Commission for Women, and completion of Emerge Maryland (2017). She also holds a certificate in Art History from the Smithsonian Associates.
Her personal philosophy, inspired by Anne Frank, emphasizes the inherent goodness of people: 'I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.'
