Loana Gatti

Loana Gatti is a Researcher and PhD candidate at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), affiliated with the Design Film Kunst school. She joined HSLU in April 2025 as part of the Swiss National Foundation (SNF) project Accelerating the Pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals in Swiss Design Education: Design Action Labs, working under Prof. Dr. Guillermina Noël within the Transformation Design research lab. Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from ECAL (École cantonale d’art de Lausanne) and a Master of Fine Arts in Curatorial and Research Practices from HEAD (Geneva).

Her research explores embodied learning practices that bridge design education, ecological awareness, and cultural sustainability. Key focus areas include:

• Participatory design methods and situated learning frameworks
• Sensory engagement with natural materials (soil, wood, fiber)
• Transformative educational spaces like school gardens
• Critical theory and feminist ethics applied to eco-pedagogy

She has conducted fieldwork on agroecology in Japanese community gardens through collaborations with Kyoto University of the Arts.
