Dr. Loai Albarqouni is an NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow and Assistant Professor at Bond University's Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine, affiliated with the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare. He holds an MD from Al-Quds University, an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and a PhD in Evidence-Based Practice from Bond University. His research focuses on evidence-informed decision-making, non-drug interventions, and addressing overdiagnosis and overuse of healthcare services in limited-resource settings.
Dr. Albarqouni's expertise spans clinical epidemiology, evidence synthesis, shared decision-making frameworks, and public health strategies. He has contributed to studies on dietary interventions for mental health, generative AI in evidence synthesis, and optimizing healthcare delivery post-pandemic. His work emphasizes improving healthcare efficiency and reducing low-value medical practices globally.
Key scientific contributions include systematic reviews on salt substitution for cardiovascular outcomes, Mediterranean diet efficacy, and barriers to non-drug interventions in primary care. He has also explored the impact of timing for meals and fasting strategies on metabolic health.
Awarded the NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellowship, his research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and quality education.
