معرفی
Lloyd Peck is a Visiting Professor in Ecology at Sunderland University and Marine Biology at Portsmouth University, and an Honorary Lecturer in Zoology at Cambridge University. As a Governing Body Fellow and Individual Merit Scientist at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), he has led large-scale polar biology programs since 1984, managing interdisciplinary teams of up to 30 researchers studying gene expression to ecosystem ecology.
His research examines animal adaptations in extreme environments, particularly Antarctic ecosystems. Key interests include:
- Physiological limitations of protein synthesis in sub-zero temperatures
- Polar gigantism mechanisms linked to oxygen availability
- Impacts of climate change on cold-adapted species
- In situ experimental manipulations of marine ecosystems
Major recognitions include:
- Polar Medal from Her Majesty's Government (2009)
- PLYMSEF Silver Medal for polar science (2015)
- Erskine Fellowship at University of Canterbury (2016-2017)
As Deputy Chair of Cambridge University's Earth Sciences Doctoral Training Programme (2012-2017), he oversaw 100+ PhD students and personally supervised 42 doctoral candidates. He secured over £8M in research grants since 2008 and leads BAS's Biodiversity, Evolution and Adaptations Team.
