Lizhen Zhou

Lizhen Zhou is an Associate Professor at the School of Applied Chemistry and Biological Technology, Shenzhen Polytechnic (SZPT), China, and concurrently a Visiting Scholar at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY, USA. Their primary affiliations include the Linhardt Research Labs and the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies at RPI.

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Food Science and Engineering, South China University of Tropical Agriculture (1994-1998)
  • Master of Science (MS) in Saccharide Engineering, South China University of Technology (2001-2004)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Saccharide Engineering, South China University of Technology (2004-2007)

Research Focus:
1. Development of bio-macromolecule-based films/fibers
2. Structure-bioactivity relationships of polysaccharides, dietary fiber, and peptides
3. Nanobiotechnology applications in food science
4. Molecular mechanisms of immunomodulatory, anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, and anti-hyperlipidemic bioactive compounds.

Labs & Collaborations: Active in cross-disciplinary research at RPI’s Linhardt Research Labs, focusing on biotechnology and materials science. Collaborates with the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies on translational projects.
