Dr. Liz Steed is a Reader in Health Psychology at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), affiliated with the Centre for Primary Care and the Wolfson Institute of Population Health. Her work focuses on developing and evaluating complex interventions for chronic illnesses, particularly in respiratory and behavioral health contexts. She co-leads the Imperial and College Hub of the NIHR Research Support Service, providing expertise in health psychology. Prior to QMUL, she worked clinically at the Royal Brompton Hospital, establishing health psychology services for cardiac and respiratory patients. Her research emphasizes behavior change theory, fidelity assessment of interventions, and implementation science.
Key projects include the TANDEM (COPD anxiety/depression management), STAMINA (prostate cancer exercise), IMP²ART (asthma self-management), and ACACIA (asthma control) initiatives. She supervises PhD candidates in areas like asthma management in emergency departments and implementation strategies in primary care. Dr. Steed’s publications span asthma, COPD, and chronic illness interventions, with a focus on improving healthcare professional training and patient-centered approaches.
Her work integrates theoretical frameworks like COM-B and iPARIHS to enhance intervention design and implementation. She has contributed to systematic reviews on culturally tailored asthma interventions for South Asian and African American populations, and has evaluated community pharmacy-based health promotion programs. Dr. Steed’s research bridges clinical practice and behavioral science to optimize chronic disease management outcomes.
