Liz Deschaseaux holds dual roles as Adjunct Fellow and Research Fellow at Southern Cross University's Faculty of Science and Engineering. She specializes in environmental science with a focus on biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) and coral reef ecosystems. Her research employs advanced analytical techniques like gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
Education: BAppSc(Hons) from University of Canberra (2006), PhD from Southern Cross University (2014). Prior experience includes roles at the University of Technology Sydney and University of Canberra.
Research Interests: Investigates dimethylated sulfur compounds in coral holobionts, BVOC emissions from marine ecosystems, and impacts of climate change on marine physiology. Current work focuses on BVOC emissions as part of the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program's cloud brightening studies.
Community Engagement: Active volunteer with SharkWatch, Positive Change for Marine Life, Australian Seabird Rescue, and Byron Underwater Research Group. Member of Homeward Bound, a global network for women in STEMM addressing climate change and gender equity.
Supervision: Mentored 2 Honours students at UTS and supervised PhD completion of Victoria Hrebien (2017-2021). Teaching experience includes laboratory demonstrations and fieldwork coordination for coral reef and biology units.
