Liz Cunningham is a Lecturer in Health and Social Inequalities at the University of Sunderland, joining in 2018. She holds an MA in Applied Policy Studies from the University of Sussex and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her work bridges academia and international development, with past roles in Cambodia and Vietnam focusing on community-based projects and aid initiatives. She coordinates modules like CHS301 and HSC309, supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, and serves as a Personal Academic Tutor.
Research interests include participatory research methods, health disparities, and social justice, with a focus on community engagement. She contributed to the Royal University of Phnom Penh’s psychology program development and coordinated an Erasmus exchange with the University of Naples. Her professional experience spans over 20 years in higher education and international development.
Liz actively supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 3, 4, 5, 10), emphasizing poverty alleviation, health equity, quality education, gender equality, and reduced inequalities. She is pursuing a Professional Doctorate in Nursing and Health Studies, focusing on researcher identity in participatory research.
