Livia Solaro is a Ph.D. researcher at Maastricht University's Faculty of Law, supervised by Prof. Lars van Vliet and Prof. Marta Pertegás Sender. Her work focuses on restitution of Nazi-looted art with emphasis on U.S. litigation, while teaching Art Law, Private International Law, and Comparative Property Law. She is affiliated with the Maastricht European Private Law Institute (M-EPLI) and co-founded the UM Law & Popular Culture Research Network.

Her research intersects cultural property law, private international law, and comparative property law, with publications analyzing transnational restitution cases, sovereign immunity in historical justice contexts, and cultural heritage policy conflicts between Italy, Germany, and the U.S. Recent work examines intersections of pop culture and legal frameworks for heritage protection.
Current affiliations include M-EPLI, UM Law & Popular Culture Research Network, and contributions to platforms like Conflict of Laws.net and Harvard International Law Journal. Her work combines doctrinal analysis with case studies, emphasizing the evolving nature of legal norms in cultural heritage disputes.
