Liu Li is an Associate Professor of Chinese at the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures within Ball State University's College of Sciences and Humanities. She specializes in Second Language Acquisition and Chinese pedagogy, with over a decade of experience teaching Chinese as a second language in the United States.
- PhD in Second Language Acquisition from Carnegie Mellon University
- Master’s in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Beijing Normal University
Research interests include literacy development in Chinese as a second language, computer-assisted language learning, Business Chinese pedagogy, bilingualism, and psycholinguistics. Her work explores the intersection of technology and language education, focusing on reading comprehension, grammatical proficiency, and innovative teaching frameworks like TPACK.
Notable publications examine coherence-building in L2 Chinese reading, grammatical knowledge's predictive power in proficiency, and technology integration in Business Chinese instruction. These works highlight her commitment to advancing pedagogical strategies and understanding cognitive processes in language learning.
Scientific awards include the STARTALK federal grant to promote Chinese education and the 2021 Teacher of the Year award from the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of Indiana.
