Liu Kang holds dual professorships as Zhiyuan Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (where he serves as Dean of the Institute of Arts and Humanities) and Professor of Chinese Media and Cultural Studies at Duke University. He concurrently directs the Duke Program of Research on China (PRC) and leads multiple research initiatives including the Shanghai-Jiaotong University-Shanghai Municipality Joint Research Center for National Image, Creativity and Innovation (RMB 15 million grant).
His education includes a BA in English from Nanjing University and MA/PhD in Comparative Literature from Madison University (likely University of Wisconsin-Madison).
