Dr. Lisiane Meira is a Lecturer in DNA Damage and Ageing at the University of Surrey's School of Biosciences. Her research focuses on cellular responses to stress, particularly in cancer and chronic disease contexts, with emphasis on alkylating agents and their clinical applications. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Surrey.
Her research investigates mechanisms linking DNA repair pathways to disease progression, including studies on glioblastoma, endometrial cancer, and cardiovascular conditions. She has supervised three postgraduate students: Dr. Eirini Martinou (PhD), Thomas Cox (PhD), and Abbey Pearson (MSci in Biochemistry). Her teaching portfolio includes modules on Cell Biology, Cancer Therapeutics, and Mechanistic Toxicology.
Key publications highlight her work on unfolded protein response in glioblastoma, adipocytokines in endometrial cancer, and NUDT5 inhibition in glioma. She has contributed to understanding DNA repair's role in atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease through collaborations with cardiology research groups.
Dr. Meira's research integrates molecular biology, genetics, and clinical data to advance therapeutic strategies for cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Her interdisciplinary approach spans from basic science to translational medicine, addressing unmet needs in precision oncology and personalized treatment regimens.
