Lisen Schultz is Deputy Director, Director of Education, and Programme Director for the Executive Programme in Resilience Thinking at the Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC), Stockholm University. She holds a PhD in Natural Resource Management (2009) and was awarded the title of Docent (Associate Professor) in 2023. Her work bridges science and society through participatory resilience assessments, adaptive co-management studies, and sustainability education initiatives.
Her research focuses on adaptive governance, social-ecological systems, and knowledge-action networks. She has led international projects like GLEAN (Swedish Research Council, 2011-2017) and BiosACM (Swedish Research Council, 2013-2017), examining how biosphere reserves function as learning sites and bridging organizations. Her work spans case studies in Sweden, South Africa, and global UNESCO reserves, with applications in municipal planning and IPBES negotiations.
Her recent publications analyze supply chain resilience through social-ecological lenses, grain legume consumption for sustainable food systems, and the evolution of the PECS research network. She serves on the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO (since 2018) and co-founded the Pontus Schultz Foundation (2012) to connect business leaders with sustainability science. Her teaching includes Sustainability Science I & II, emphasizing participatory methods and ecosystem services.
