Dr. Lise M. Bjerre is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa and holds cross-appointments in the School of Epidemiology, Preventive Medicine and Public Health. She is also an Adjunct Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) and a staff physician at the Civic Family Health Team, Ottawa Hospital. Her research focuses on medication appropriateness, particularly addressing potentially inappropriate prescribing (PIP) in seniors, using clinical tools and health administrative data to improve patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency.
Dr. Bjerre completed her PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University (2004), a Dr. med in Family Medicine from Göttingen University (2003), and an MDCM from McGill University (1999). She has held her current academic positions since 2010 and maintains active roles in graduate supervision and clinical practice.
Her research interests include pharmacoepidemiology, population health, evidence-based medicine, and methodological advancements in health sciences databases. She leads initiatives to reduce PIP's impact on Canadian seniors through targeted interventions and policy recommendations.
Dr. Bjerre's work has been published in BMJ Open, focusing on validating prescribing criteria and assessing outcomes using large datasets. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to bridge clinical practice and population-level research, emphasizing real-world applicability of her findings.
