Lisbeth Rem Jessen serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. She holds dual appointments in both the Section for Internal Medicine, Oncology and Clinical Pathology and the Section for Clinical Practice and Diagnostics in companion animals. As Research Group Leader and Programme Director of the UCPH residency programme in companion animal internal medicine under the auspice of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine for Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA), she plays a pivotal role in veterinary education and clinical practice.
Dr. Jessen's primary research focus centers on infectious diseases in dogs and cats, with particular expertise in urinary tract infections and antimicrobial stewardship. Her work bridges clinical practice with evidence-based guideline development, addressing critical issues of antibiotic resistance in veterinary medicine. She leads multiple high-impact international initiatives including serving as Workpackage Leader of the European Network for Optimization of Veterinary Antimicrobial Treatment (ENOVAT) guidelines initiative, Chair of the Antimicrobial Guidelines in Canine Acute Diarrhea drafting group, and Chair of the ESCMID Study Group Veterinary Microbiology (ESGVM) guidelines project.
Her recent publication record demonstrates strong productivity, with numerous high-impact articles focusing on antimicrobial use guidelines, treatment efficacy studies, and behavioral aspects of antibiotic prescribing in veterinary practice. These works predominantly address canine infectious diseases with emphasis on evidence-based treatment protocols and stewardship principles.
