Lisbeth Lundahl is a Professor of Educational Work at Umeå University since 2002 and has held visiting professorships at the University of Gothenburg (2022–2023) and University of Turku (2015–2020). She is an Honorary Doctor at the University of Turku (2021). Her primary affiliation is with the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, with additional affiliations in the Department of Applied Educational Sciences.
Her research focuses on educational policy, youth transitions, and the intersection of policy, institutions, and individual experiences. She has led numerous nationally and internationally funded projects, including the interdisciplinary program 'Education Policy and Youth Transitions.' Key leadership roles include Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University (2003–2008), Secretary General of the European Educational Research Association (2005–2008), and co-founder of the Swedish Educational Research Association (2013).
Her work spans topics like school market dynamics, social justice in education, and policy impacts on marginalized youth. Notable contributions include studies on early school leaving, career guidance systems, and the globalization of Swedish educational policies. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and edited volumes, with recent focus on Nordic youth transitions and comparative educational governance.
Awards include the University of Turku honorary doctorate (2021). Current research investigates localized career support systems for youth in vulnerable contexts, funded by the Swedish Research Council.
