Lisa Yeomans is an Associate Professor in the Section for Geobiology at the Globe Institute, University of Copenhagen, which operates under the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Her institutional affiliation places her within one of Denmark's leading research universities, with office locations at Karen Blixens Plads 8, 2300 København S, and Øster Voldgade 5-7, 1350 København K. She can be contacted via email at zhr605@hum.ku.dk or yeomans@sund.ku.dk, and by phone at +4527121701.
Dr. Yeomans is a zooarchaeologist whose research program investigates the intricate historical relationships between humans, animals, and environments on a global scale, with empirical focus primarily on southwest Asia. Her work centers on utilizing zooarchaeological evidence to reconstruct past environments, understand human subsistence strategies, and document changing human-animal interactions that occurred alongside major societal transformations including animal management, urbanization, industrialization, and globalization. She has developed expertise in both traditional zooarchaeological analysis and cutting-edge biomolecular approaches.
As Principal Investigator of the project 'Birds as a key line of evidence for human vulnerability and resilience to environmental shifts in a pre-agricultural context,' she is developing geometric morphometric and proteomic identification methods specifically for waterfowl remains. These innovative techniques are currently being applied to archaeological materials from Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene wetlands in Eastern Jordan, providing critical insights into how pre-agricultural societies interacted with and adapted to changing environmental conditions. Her research strongly questions how understanding past human-animal interactions can inform contemporary approaches to the biodiversity crisis.
Analysis of her recent publications (2024-2025) reveals a cohesive research trajectory focused on avian proteomics, human-bird relationships across different historical periods, Neolithic archaeology in southwest Asia, and environmental reconstruction methods. Her scholarly output demonstrates methodological innovation combined with theoretical depth, addressing fundamental questions about human adaptation to environmental change through interdisciplinary approaches that bridge archaeology, zoology, and biomolecular science.
Dr. Yeomans maintains a strong commitment to leveraging traditional ecological knowledge in promoting sustainable futures for humans, non-human animals, and the environment. Her research provides important connections between historical human-animal interactions and contemporary environmental challenges, emphasizing the relevance of archaeological perspectives to current sustainability issues.
With extensive experience as a field archaeologist, she maintains practical engagement with excavation methodologies and their continuous refinement. Her collaborative research involves international teams working across multiple disciplines to address complex questions about long-term human-environment relationships, as evidenced by her numerous co-authored publications and the broad attention her work has received across academic and public platforms.
