Professor Lisa T. Alexander is a faculty member at Boston College Law School, serving as a Professor and Faculty Director of the Housing and Property Rights Programs within the Initiative on Land, Housing & Property Rights. Previously, she held professorships at the University of Wisconsin Law School (2006–2017) and Texas A&M University School of Law, where she also had a joint appointment in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning. She co-founded Texas A&M’s Program in Real Estate and Community Development Law, which she continues to advance at Boston College.
Her education includes a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a J.D. from Columbia University. She has held notable fellowships, including the Equal Justice Works Fellowship and the Coro Fellowship in Public Affairs, and was honored as a Texas A&M Presidential Impact Fellow (2018).
Her research focuses on U.S. housing law and policy, emphasizing equitable allocation of housing rights, legal and extra-legal property rights, and innovative solutions like tiny houses. Her work bridges law, urban planning, and public policy, aiming to enhance efficiency and equity in housing markets. Recent publications include an article on tiny houses in the Harvard Law & Policy Review, alongside contributions to the Minnesota Law Review and Yale Law Journal Forum.
Professor Alexander’s roles include advising policymakers, directing academic initiatives, and contributing to civil rights advocacy. She previously served on the Wisconsin State Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and as a Co-Editor of the ABA Journal of Affordable Housing & Community Development Law.
