Professor Lisa Mcneill is a Professor of Tectonics at the University of Southampton, Department of Geology and Geophysics. Her research focuses on active tectonics, geohazards, and marine geophysics, with particular emphasis on subduction zones (e.g., Sumatra, Hikurangi, Cascadia) and continental rift systems like the Gulf of Corinth. She employs marine geophysical techniques, sediment coring, and scientific drilling to study tectonic evolution and fault behavior. Current projects include IODP drilling initiatives and investigations into subduction zone segmentation. Mcneill holds leadership roles in international scientific organizations such as the IODP Science Evaluation Panel and the AGU Tectonophysics Section. She supervises PhD students in active tectonics and related fields.
Education: BA Natural Sciences (University of Cambridge, 1992), PhD Structural Geology (Oregon State University, 1998). Previous roles include Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellowships (Leeds and Southampton, 1999–2002). Awards: Geological Society of London Coke Medal (2020). External Roles: Co-Chair of IODP Science Evaluation Panel (2019–2022), UKIODP Programme Advisory Group Member (2012–2023), President-elect of AGU Tectonophysics Section (2023–2025).
