Lisa McEntee-Atalianis is a Professor of Sociolinguistics at Birkbeck, University of London, and Director of the MA in Applied Linguistics and Communication. She has held positions at the Universities of Bristol, Cyprus, Reading, and Queen Mary London, with fieldwork in Cyprus, New York, and Turkey. Her research focuses on identity construction in multilingual contexts and language policy in international organizations like the United Nations.
Her work includes the 2019 monograph Identity in Applied Linguistics Research and co-edited 2023 volume Language and Sustainable Development. She supervises PhD students in topics ranging from haafu identity in Japan to meso-level agency in Vietnam's language policy, and has led workshops for UN Multilingual Focal Points.
