Lisa McConlogue is a Research Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, where she leads the McConlogue Laboratory focused on neurodegeneration mechanisms and therapeutic development. Her research investigates protein misfolding disorders including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Lewy body dementias, with particular expertise in intrinsically disordered proteins like alpha-synuclein.
Dr. McConlogue's education includes a B.A. in Mathematics (1973), M.S. in Medical Physics (1975), and Ph.D. in Medical Physics (1978) from UCLA, followed by postdoctoral training in Somatic Cell Genetics at UCSF (1985).
Her primary research examines the pathogenic mechanisms of alpha-synuclein misfolding and identifies therapeutic chaperones that block neurodegeneration. Current work focuses on Hsp70's non-canonical engagement with alpha-synuclein, which shows promise for treating multiple neurodegenerative diseases. She has secured NIH funding as Principal Investigator for projects including 'Small-Molecule Pharmacological Chaperones to Prevent Synuclein Transmission' (2015-2018).
McConlogue's publication record demonstrates consistent focus on protein misfolding mechanisms, therapeutic targeting, and disease models across neurodegenerative conditions. Her recent work emphasizes structural biology approaches to alpha-synuclein modulation and chaperone-based interventions.
