Lisa M. Merschel is an Associate Professor of the Practice of Romance Studies at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, serving as Director of the Spanish Language Program since 2021. She has been at Duke since 2001, holding prior roles including Assistant Professor of the Practice (2021–2024), Senior Lecturer (2016–2021), and Lecturer (2009–2016).

Research Focus: Specializes in second-language acquisition, language technologies, and the impact of machine learning on L2 writing.
