Lisa Luhanga is a Lecturer in the Nursing department of the Nursing and Paramedic Science Division at Queen Margaret University (QMU), where she has taught since 2015. She previously served as the programme lead for Health Visiting and School Nursing for six years and currently teaches postgraduate students in these specialized areas.
Her educational background includes:
- Training as a general adult nurse and midwife in Glasgow
- Public health nursing qualification at Queen Margaret University
- Masters in Professional and Higher Education (recently completed at QMU)
Research interests focus on public health nursing, particularly maternal, child, and family health. Her academic work is informed by extensive practical experience in public health initiatives including aquanatal classes, breastfeeding support, infant massage, and healthy school collaborations. Her dissertation explored work-life balance challenges for programme leaders in higher education settings.
Lisa actively contributes to university governance as a member of the Equality and Diversity Committee and the Bereavement Charter working group. She serves as the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Lead for the Health Visiting programme, which recently achieved UNICEF BFI Stage 2 re-accreditation.
In her teaching practice, she specializes in supporting postgraduate students returning to education while managing home life and study commitments. She holds a Practice Teaching qualification and mentors students through clinical placements and academic development.
