Lisa Long is a Professor of English at North Central College, where she has held leadership roles including Faculty Speaker, Associate Provost, and Dean of College Programs. She teaches courses in American literature, gender & women's studies, and writing, emphasizing late 19th-century to contemporary works. Her research focuses on popular 19th-century American women writers, African American literature, and Southeast Asian American literature.
Long holds a B.A. (1989) and M.A. (1991) from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. (1997) from the University of Wisconsin. Her additional credentials include certification as a Green Dot Trainer, Title IX Investigator training, and Restorative Justice Conferencing training.
Her scholarly work spans literary analysis of Toni Morrison, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, and transnational narratives of Hmong and Vietnamese communities. Courses taught include seminars on Midwestern identity, cultural diversity, and young adult fiction. Her administrative experience includes a decade in college programs leadership, reflecting her dual commitment to education and institutional governance.
