Lisa Lamson is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of History at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, part of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Marquette University (2021) and specializes in teaching African American history, historic methodology, and courses related to childhood, gender, and education history.
Her research focuses on the intersection of education, gendered citizenship, and childhood history in 19th-century urban spaces. She is currently developing a monograph based on her dissertation, “’Our Duty is to Furnish Such Education:’ Black Childhood and Schooling in Baltimore City, 1828–1900,” which examines black parental advocacy, citizenship and schooling dynamics, curricular policy, and childhood experiences.
Lisa’s teaching interests include U.S. African American History, the history of childhood, gender history, education history, the history of segregation and Civil Rights, textile and fashion history, and popular culture. She is also an avid knitter, comic book and science fiction fan, and romance reader.
