Lisa Kay is a Professor and Chair of Art Education & Community Arts Practices at Temple University. She is a board-certified art therapist (ATR-BC), artist/researcher, and educator whose work integrates art, teaching, and therapy into a cohesive practice. Her research focuses on artistic development, the psychology of child art, resilience through art-making, and the healing potential of the arts for children, adolescents, and adults.
Lisa holds an EdD from Northern Illinois University (2008), an MA (1980), and a BFA (1975) from the University of Memphis. Her work bridges art education and art therapy, emphasizing the role of narrative art, restorative practices, and creative methods in addressing trauma and adversity.
Her publications highlight interdisciplinary collaborations between art education and school-based art therapy, with a focus on trauma-informed pedagogies and qualitative research methodologies. She is a co-editor of the forthcoming book Restorative Practices in Education through the Arts (2025), which explores trauma-related healing through artistic interventions.
