Lisa Jaegers, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at Saint Louis University’s Doisy College of Health Sciences. She specializes in applying occupational science principles to workplace health and justice system reform. Her roles include serving as Associate Director of the Saint Louis University Health Criminology Research Consortium, a multidisciplinary initiative addressing the intersection of health, crime, and criminal justice systems. Dr. Jaegers founded the Transformative Justice Initiative (TJI), directs the OT Transition and Integration Services (OTTIS) program, and facilitates the Justice-Based Occupational Therapy (JBOT) network.
Her education includes a Ph.D. in Public Health from Saint Louis University, an MS in Occupational Therapy from Florida International University, and dual BS degrees in Occupational Therapy and Psychology from Maryville University. Her research focuses on Total Worker Health® strategies for occupational justice, incarceration prevention, and supporting individuals transitioning from justice systems. She has developed programs targeting corrections workers’ mental health, prison-based health promotion, and reentry services for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Dr. Jaegers’ work emphasizes reducing systemic inequities through occupational therapy interventions. She has evaluated reentry programs, peer support systems for public safety workers, and policies mitigating trauma in carceral settings. Her contributions span academic publications, program development, and advocacy networks advancing occupational justice.
Professional affiliations include the American Occupational Therapy Association (past Chair of Work & Industry SIG), the Society for the Study of Occupation, and the Missouri Occupational Therapy Association. Her research has generated actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners in healthcare and criminal justice systems.
