Lisa Isenström is a Senior Lecturer at Karlstad University's Department of Educational Studies, specializing in children's human rights in educational settings. Her work focuses on pedagogical practices, policy implementation, and teacher roles in fostering rights-based education. She holds a PhD from Örebro University (2020) and degrees in sports pedagogy and primary school teaching. Isenström collaborates internationally through networks like the Children's Human Rights in Education Network and ECER's 25 network. She co-leads a UNICEF-funded project studying the 'Rights-Based Schools' program in Swedish compulsory education, analyzing teacher-student dynamics and student participation. She also investigates children's rights in school-age educare centers, a less-researched area in Sweden's educational system.
Her research integrates interdisciplinary approaches from education, gender studies, and science pedagogy through affiliations with UBB (Karlstad University) and ReCEL (Örebro University). Key projects include examining collateral human rights learning in daily school situations and teachers' mentalities toward rights-based teaching. Ongoing work explores how pedagogical practices shape children’s growing understanding of rights, with implications for teacher training and educational policy.
Isenström’s publications span Scandinavian and international journals, addressing topics like rights-based pedagogy, teacher-student collaboration, and systemic governance of human rights education. She emphasizes practical applications of research through partnerships with schools and policymakers. Future work will continue analyzing the interplay between educational practices, institutional policies, and children’s evolving agency within rights frameworks.
