معرفی
Lisa Friis is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kansas, where she has been since 2001. She co-founded and co-directs the Product Design and Development track in the KU Bioengineering Graduate Program, integrating entrepreneurship into engineering education. Her research focuses on biomaterials, spine biomechanics, and the design/testing of medical implants, with an emphasis on piezoelectric materials for tissue healing.
- Research Areas: Spine biomechanics, structural biomaterials, medical device design, piezoelectric composites, and biomaterials characterization.
- Scientific Awards:
- KU Outstanding Woman Educator Award (2007)
- Kemper Fellowship (2006)
- Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering
Dr. Friis leads the Spine Biomechanics Laboratory, which explores electromechanical testing, implant prototyping, and biological healing. She has secured SBIR grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health, with technologies now commercialized. Her lab collaborates on projects like spinal fusion device development and cadaveric spine testing.
