Dr. Lisa Ely is a Professor in the Department of Geology at Central Washington University (CWU). Her research focuses on geomorphology, Quaternary geology, and natural hazards, with fieldwork conducted across the western U.S., Chile, India, and Mexico. She investigates climate change impacts on flood frequency, stream restoration effects, paleofloods, and outburst flood processes.
Education includes a PhD from the University of Arizona (1992) and an NSF postdoctoral fellowship at Pennsylvania State University. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in Geomorphology, Regional Natural History, and graduate-level Quaternary Geology and Fluvial Geomorphology. She contributes to interdisciplinary programs like CWU's Science Talent Expansion Program (STEP) and Environmental Studies Program.
Research spans topics such as arroyo incision in semi-arid regions, bedrock channel evolution in Oregon, and paleo-tsunami deposits. She applies geomorphology principles to environmental and archaeological site preservation contexts.
