Lisa DiMartino, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an Assistant Professor at the Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her research focuses on implementation science and health services research, particularly in improving evidence-based interventions for patients with cancer, chronic diseases, and sickle cell disease. She employs mixed methods, including qualitative evaluations and advanced statistical analysis of large datasets.
Dr. DiMartino holds a BA in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MPH in Health Behavior and Health Education, and a PhD in Health Policy and Management, all from UNC-Chapel Hill. Her work integrates implementation science with clinical practice to enhance healthcare delivery, such as developing strategies to identify palliative care needs in cancer patients using natural language processing (NLP) and electronic health records.
Her research interests include cross-departmental collaboration, palliative oncologic care, and addressing disparities in healthcare access. Current projects include leading the NCI Beau Biden Cancer Moonshot IMPACT consortium and co-investigating implementation strategies for sickle cell disease care through mHealth interventions. She also examines social vulnerability’s impact on cancer outcomes and disparities in healthcare access.
Dr. DiMartino’s articles highlight trends in healthcare innovation tracking, the role of health IT in cancer screening, and the effects of hospital designation on treatment outcomes. Her work emphasizes bridging clinical informatics with implementation science to address unmet needs in symptom management and disease-specific care.
She is affiliated with several research consortia, including the NHLBI-funded Sickle Cell Disease Implementation Consortium. Her contributions focus on methodological advancements, such as the Longitudinal Implementation Strategy Tracking System (LISTS), to improve implementation research within collaborative frameworks.
