Lisa Davis serves as Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Programs, Professor of Law, and Co-Director of the Human Rights & Gender Justice Clinic at CUNY School of Law. She previously acted as Special Adviser on Gender Persecution to the International Criminal Court (ICC), where she drafted the first policy on gender persecution crimes. Her expertise spans gender-based crimes in conflict zones, women's rights, and LGBTQI+ rights.
Professor Davis has testified before multiple legislative bodies including the U.S. Congress and European Parliament. Her landmark work includes co-authoring an amicus brief in Karen Atala and Daughters v. Chile that established sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes under international law. She led the petition resulting in the Inter-American Commission's first precautionary measures decision recognizing state responsibility to prevent gender-based violence.
Recent publications focus on gender persecution, crimes against humanity frameworks, and accountability mechanisms for ISIS atrocities. As a 2022 Fulbright Scholar, she taught international law at Leiden University.
