Lisa Bono is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University, actively contributing to the Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program since at least Fall 2023.
Her research investigates evolution in changing environments using viruses as model systems, with emphasis on experimental evolution approaches involving bacteriophages (including Pseudomonas syringae phage phi6), influenza, and environmental phages. She explores the interplay between ecological and evolutionary forces driving biodiversity generation through mechanisms like selective pressures and genetic diversity.
Dr. Bono has co-instructed multiple SEA-PHAGES sections, teaching both in situ (phage discovery/microbiology) and in silico (phage genomics/bioinformatics) courses for undergraduate students, primarily sophomores in the TrUE Scholars program. Her instructional roles span Fall 2023 to Spring 2025 with class sizes of 6-14 students, focusing on host systems like Arthrobacter globiformis and Gordonia rubripertincta.
