Lisa Berlin is the Alison L. Richman Professor and MPower Professor at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Her research focuses on early child-caregiver attachment, early parenting programs, child development, and prevention of child maltreatment. She works across disciplines including human development, psychology, social work, and public health.
- BA in Psychology from Barnard College
- MS and PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State
Dr. Berlin investigates how attachment-based programs enhance publicly funded services for families, with recent work on:
- Neighborhood effects on maternal mental health
- Maternal sensitivity and infant emotion regulation
- Home visiting program efficacy
- Child care provider wellbeing
- Intergenerational child maltreatment patterns
Her publications from 2020–2022 highlight applications of attachment theory to interventions in low-income communities, particularly for Latino and Latina families. She also serves as editor of the Society for Research in Child Development Social Policy Report.
