Lisa Baitsell

Lisa Baitsell is a Lecturer in Legal Studies at the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Mercy University, where she began teaching in 2025. Her distinguished legal career includes service as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County and Supervising Attorney for the NYC Department of Education.

Research and Teaching Interests: Ms. Baitsell specializes in Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Family Law, Immigration Law, and Education Law. Her teaching in LAWS/POLS 361 - Constitutional Law & Policy integrates a compassionate, equitable, and holistic approach derived from 20+ years of legal practice, emphasizing real-world application of constitutional principles across diverse case types.

Professional Background: From 2000-2003, she served as Trial All-Purpose Part Team Leader for Bronx County Assistant District Attorneys, training junior staff in misdemeanor trials. From 2003-2018, she oversaw adjudication of school suspensions as Supervising Attorney for NYC's Office of School and Youth Development. She concurrently managed a private practice resolving criminal, family, matrimonial, and immigration cases through litigation, mediation, and settlement negotiations.

Ms. Baitsell is additionally certified as an End-of-Life Doula and maintains a Buddhist practice.
